Technical Field Observations Field Book: Purchase a technical observations field book from Snow Pit Technologies. This book is highly recommended for any backcountry user who regularly documents observations.
Avalanche Terminology Encyclopedia: This link provides definitions for many of the technical terms avalanche advisories use.
Snow, Weather and Avalanches: Observational Guidelines for Avalanche Programs in the United States: This links to the American Avalanche Association website, where you can download the SWAG in segments. This is a great resource for anyone passing their observations along to avalanche centers and other users.

Skeetawk – Skeetawk offers Backcountry 101 courses geared towards aspiring backcountry travelers ages 16+ new to backcountry travel. This hands-on, on-mountain introductory course takes students up to mid-mountain via the cabin snowcat and introduces the use of backcountry rescue gear, recognizing avalanche terrain, red flags of snow instability, and backcountry travel techniques. This course does not take the place of an Avalanche Level 1 course, but makes a good first stepping stone.
